Hiking 101, perfect for getting your heart and mind in gear for the activities ahead. This will be a 2 mile hike that takes you past two cascades. One of the cascades is a small but picturesque. The second water fall is 86 feet high and has a great view from the top . We will stop periodically to play some getting to know you games so that we can all learn about who we will be spending the week with. Our knowledgeable guides will encourage the team building skills needed to have a successful week.

1:30pm-4:30pm Basic Paddle
Everyone will be learning the basics of paddling a kayak or a canoe. Participants will have the opportunity to try both types of boats and the proper paddling techniques. We will have fun with this and encourage people with paddling experience to help others with little or no experience. Once everyone feels comfortable, we will take a short paddle up the river. Small challenges throughout the afternoon will challenge your mind and your body.
Tuesday:
7am-10am Early Morning Paddle
The early bird gets the sightings! Wake up early to go on a peaceful paddle in a wildlife preserve. We leave early in the morning so that we have more of a chance to see wildlife. We encourage you to bring your binoculars and cameras to capture the beauty of this area. We will point out birds and other animals as we paddle. The perfect time to try out those photo techniques you learned yesterday! We will stop on a small sandy area to teach you a valuable lesson in purifying water in the wild.
10am- 11am Outdoor Brunch
11am-2pm Map &Compass/ Beginner Orienteering
Our guides will be teaching the basics of orienteering. Learning how to read a map and a compass is essential for any outdoor activity. Here we make it fun and exciting for all to learn. We will break you into groups of 4 or 5 and then start the lesson. Once the groups think that they have basic understanding, they get put to the test. Practice your new skills in preparation for tomorrows’ orienteering challenge. We have a preset coarse that the groups will be going around with just a map and compass. This is timed and the fastest time will win a prize!

Wednesday:
9am-4pm Orienteering & Wilderness Survival
Challenge your mind and body with a day in the wilderness of Vermont. Everyone will be given a survival kit, then split into groups of 4 or 5. Our guides will have lists of tasks that will need to be done at each Orientation site. The groups will be starting at different spots, if a group meets in the woods they must complete the task together. Wilderness Survival will be stressed through out the day.
Tasks will include:
Starting a fire 3 different ways with no matches and just what is given to you at the fire building site.
Making a litter to carry an injured person up out of a ravine. (a group member will act as our injured person)
Find 8 edible items and then eat all of what has been found.
Make a shelter that one person could stay in for a night.
Make a one person raft and then have one person float on it.
Think of 5 ways to attract the attention of rescue searches.
Thursday:
9am-5pm Paddle the Otter Creek
The White river is one Vermont’s most wonderful paddles. The water flows quickly and rushes over rocks, ledges and around sharp bends. Our guides will teach you how to maneuver around rocks and avoid hazards. Be prepared to get wet, there is a chance your boat will overturn! You will be able to choose a kayak. There will be a picnic lunch on the side of the river so you can relax and let your feet soak in the water.
Friday:
9am-4pm Rock & Rappel
Anyone can climb rock or let themselves down over the edge of a cliff! If you had never thought that you would be able to accomplish this feat, you will today. Let us show you that it doesn’t take a lot of upper body strength to climb or rappel. We make sure that everyone is successful on this challenge. Safety is always top priority ! This course teaches participants the fundamental skills needed to participate in top rope climbing. Beginning with how to tie into the climbing rope, how to belay another climber on top rope, how to properly anchor themselves while belaying, important safety rules and basic climbing technique. Next, we will teach you how to set anchors. Students will learn to build top rope anchors using natural protection i.e.; trees, boulders, and natural features of the rock. Students will also learn to rappel using a back-up method. You will leave knowing you have accomplished a challenge most don’t even dare to try! We will provide you with a photograph of this experience to take home. Show your friends and family that you really did it!

8am-11am Hike part of the Long Trail
Be taken to a part of the long trail that passes over rolling hills with fantastic sights. During the hike, our guides will be stopping periodically to teach you some basic survival techniques. You may learn to build a fire with out matches, purify water, build a splint for a broken arm or leg or find the direction you are headed without a compass. Finish up the hike by passing by one of the areas most amazing river features, a beautiful gorge.
11am-1pm Travel/ Lunch
1pm-4pm Horse Back Ride
Enjoy tranquil views as you ride through the beautiful green mountains. Some say that riding through this country is the best way to see it, we agree! .Let us take you on a peaceful tour of the largest horse ranch in the northeast. We will have 2000 acres of land to explore on this easy going afternoon.
Wednesday:
9am-11am Country Bike Ride
You will be guided on a scenic country bike ride off the beaten path onto the back roads of Vermont. Ride at your own pace, our company vehicle will keep close track of the bikers, making sure no one gets too far behind.
11am-1pm BBQ lunch and relaxation
1pm-4pm Kayak or Canoe down the CT river.
Take your boat of choice for a fun trip down the CT River. On this trip we often see an array of wild life. You will be able to explore the river or just relax and slowly paddle as you drift down stream. We will stop on an Island toward the end of our paddle for a teambuilding scavenger hunt. Follow clues and collect items the fastest to beat the other teams to victory and fun prizes.
8pm-11pm Optional Night Hike
The woods of Vermont come alive at night. Join us on this evening hike for a completely different view. You may be able to see many wild animals on this slow and quiet trek through the woods. Enjoy the beautiful night sky with no light pollution. Everything in the sky will pop out at you. Just experiencing the sounds and sights of night in the woods of Vermont is unforgettable.
Thursday:
9am-4pm Adventure Race
Adventure Racing is one of the few sports where just completing the race alone is often considered a victory. Our own Vermont version of The Amazing Race. We combine a multitude of outdoor sports including; mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, rappelling, climbing and more... We set up a course for you to follow and then didvide into teams. The teams are selected at random by our guides and kept the same for the entire day. The activities are chosen carefully to suit the fitness and knowledge level of the weeks’ group. Our staff will be by your side throughout the day to help when necessary. Teammates must cross the finish line together to ensure that they help eachother with every challenge. At the end of each phase the facilitator will invite participants to offer tips, strategies and learning. The discussion will focus on teamwork; support, trust, working together, defining roles, leadership and communication. Teams will be challenged to take their support, and therefore their overall performance, to the next level. BBQ lunch will be served to each team at different stages between 11:30am to 12:30pm.

May 9th 10th & 11th Mothers Day Weekend Adventure
Arrive on Friday evening and settle into your room. After you are settled in you can take an optional night hike. Saturday morning: Wake up and have breakfast. You start your day with a hike through the White Rocks national forest. We will then travel to the Otter Creek and kayak down stream enjoying the senery. You will then go back to the Lodge have dinner and relax for the night. After breakfast on Sunday you will head off the the CT river where you will paddle down stream to Ascuney Mtn where you will hike to Cascade Falls an eighty six foot waterfall. You will then have the choice of staying in the loge for the night so you can shower and relax before you depart home. Or you can just head for home.

August 31st- September 5th
Hike the Long Trail in Southern Vermont
Join us on Vermont's most breathtaking hiking trails. The views you will see will amaze you and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. You will hike about 10 to 15 miles a day and stay at country inns and lodges along the way. You and your guides will be dropped off at the trail head and picked up at the end of your hike. You will be able to rest you tired legs and eat great meals when you get done hiking.
The best part is you can sleep in a comfortable bed every night. The hikes can be steep and rocky as well as flat. You will be hiking past mountain ponds, vernal pools, mashes, beaver ponds, and through the ever changing Vermont woods. You will be able to climb fire towers to get 360 degree views from the top of many of the mountain peeks you will be climbing.
